The hypnagogic state is the transitional, semiconscious, or "twilight" phase between wakefulness and sleep.

From a neurological perspective, this is the phase where your brain shifts gears and begins producing strong theta brain waves. Your physical body is powering down and becoming heavy, but your conscious awareness has not yet clicked off into deep sleep.

Most people just sleep right through this transition. But if you can train your mind to stay awake and observant while your physical body falls asleep, you gain access to a highly malleable state of consciousness. This is the launchpad. This is the direct doorway into an out-of-body experience.

  • Use Binaural Beats: If holding your attention is too difficult, use technology. Listening to specific binaural beats or brainwave entrainment audio tracks in stereo headphones can artificially prompt your brain to enter the necessary theta state.

  • Expect the Buzz: When the heavy blanket of sleep paralysis hits and the electrical vibrations start, do not panic. Your ego will register this as a threat and try to snap you awake. You have to simply observe the vibrations, relax into them, and let the process happen.
