The Fisherman's Bible
Book Description for Readers:
What is your life’s destiny or fate? Do we have any say, control or choice in the matter? Or are we blindly headed toward a predetermined, inevitable outcome? What is the meaning of life? Who am I? What is my purpose? Why am I here?
Join multi-award winning, inspirational self-help author J. Stewart Dixon in an adventure that will change the course of your life––forever.
Discover your destiny in The Fisherman’s Bible…
The Fisherman’s Bible is a modern, inspirational, parable, similar in style to The Alchemist, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, The Shack, and The Five People You Meet in Heaven, but with a modern, edgy, sophisticated and humorous twist.
Fate and destiny play their cruel, wise hands with Madeleine and Turok, both of whom suffer early-life tragedies, propelling them toward a mutual encounter in the isolated and dangerous, Canadian Artic wilderness. Guided by a series of visions and dreams from a strange, otherworldly fish, each embarks upon a hero’s journey of healing and self-discovery toward a destiny that neither understands, but both must accept.
But––there’s a twist. You ready to go a little deeper…a little darker…and a little farther? Author J. Stewart Dixon loves breaking the rules ––and the walls–– which separate the reader from the pages: Abbey and James McCafferty, smash through these walls. Abbey is helping her grandfather, James McCafferty, an old, has-been, once-famous, inspirational author overcome his unfulfilled, unhappy and close-minded ways and write his next big book, a parable he’s penned, called…The Fisherman’s Bible. Abbey introduces James to a host of new friends, guides and teachers who stretch the limits of what he understands about life, relationship, love, awareness, self and destiny.
Of course, author J. Stewart Dixon also chimes in here and there, breaking the fourth wall and gently inspiring the reader inward and onward with their own destiny and hero’s journey––to find fulfillment, happiness and peace.
Welcome to the new, modern spiritual parable, where perennial philosophy and wisdom gets an overhaul and an upgrade––The Fisherman’s Bible isn’t what you think it is, but it’s everything you long for and a few things you’re probably aren’t ready for––and this is a good thing. There will be trial and tribulation. There will be pain and heartbreak. And you are guaranteed to discover ––your destiny–– in The Fisherman’s Bible.
Professional Book Reviews:

"Spirituality for Badasses should be part of any self-help, spirituality, or mindfulness collection.
It goes where no other books in these genres dare travel, doing so in such a manner that older readers may be offended...but younger audiences will find it enlightening food for thought that speaks their language in a way no other book matches.
Highly recommended for discussion, contemplation, and action-oriented response, Spirituality for Badasses is sassy, brash, forthright...and just the cup of tea needed for modern generations. (Heck, make that a cup of vodka. It really packs a punch.)"
–Diane Donovan, Senior Review, Midwest Book Review

"Dixon has much to offer, repackaging mysticism, intentionality, and self-care into something proudly lowbrow and accessible."
Kirkus Review Excerpt:
A motivational work blazes a spiritual path for those who consider themselves too cool for such things…
He mixes stories from his own slacker’s quest for enlightenment with lessons from modern psychology, thought-provoking parables, and awareness exercises, all delivered as part of his jocular, profane, and fourth wall–breaking monologue…
Chapters end with what Dixon calls “Spiritual Badass Lessons,” which remind readers how to react in various situations, generally by falling back on mindfulness or awareness practices…
Dixon’s meta he-man shtick will likely turn off some readers—but the manual’s intended readers seem to be a specific type: those who maybe don’t peruse that many books and who need this sort of playful hand-holding in order to access the spirituality they crave but are scared to explore. For that audience, Dixon has much to offer, repackaging mysticism, intentionality, and self-care into something proudly lowbrow and accessible.
A jokey yet earnest and useful guide to enlightenment for badass readers.
- Kirkus Reviews

"a very contemporary spin on the pursuit of self-knowledge (that) serves its lessons up in easily accessible portions."
Pacific Book Review Excerpt:
"an expansive sometimes manic tour de force through thousands of years of received wisdom and spiritual teaching. The author gifts the reader with his encyclopedic knowledge of self-help books and spiritual traditions, in the process serving up his own very contemporary style ...
Dixon always keeps it real and fresh with plentiful allusions to pop culture, to television and movies and consumer brands that serve to keep the reader in this very moment of history and awareness. The author's use of pop culture and often obscene colloquialism is in the service of keeping his spiritual smorgasbord timely and relevant.
Dixon's hortatory efforts are never wide of the mark. He rightfully focuses on the primacy of consciousness and awareness. He has clearly done his spiritual homework and he succeeds at distilling the effective and life-changing ingredients of contemplation and initiation. His relationship to his student/reader is like a shaman drill sergeant cajoling and nudging and ultimately getting his team over the hurdle."
